Diversity Education Session

"The child becomes largely what it is taught; hence we must watch what we teach it, and how we live before it."
- Jane Addams

Our awesome College of Education at NCSU hosted a Social Justice in Our Communities Symposium Event which I was able to attend. The symposium examined “issues of the injustices and inequalities associated with race and racial identity, class and language, and the impact of various social issues on educational environments and our communities”. As a future educator, the symposium and diversity sessions taught me that I should treat all students like they’re equal, but also take equity into account by giving extra help and attention to the students that will need it more. All teachers should have the ability to adapt their teaching to the needs of each individual student and recognize that all students face different struggles. I hope that I can incorporate what I've learned at this event in my future classroom.
