City Serve - Refugee Hope Partners

On March 26th, 2022, I participated in City Serve through Providence Baptist Church. City Serve is an annual event in which volunteers are sent to different locations to serve the community all on the same day. Volunteers can select the type of service they would like to do - this way people can choose to serve in ways they are best suited for or for things they are most passionate about. This year I signed up to volunteer with the college ministry which partnered with Refugee Hope Partners to arrange an event where we could interact with Afghan Refugee families. Many of the families spend most of their day in a hotel room, so we wanted to give them some fellowship and encouragement. I was a part of the group that took some children to a local park to play games and hang out. The three young girls I spent time with did not speak any English but we found ways of communicating with one another and spent most of the time laughing and playing. I had fun volunteering with Refugee Hope Partners to welcome Afghan families and help them feel more comfortable in a new country, and I plan to do it again in the future.
