Fieldwork with 3rd grade

During the Spring semester of 2022 I did my elementary course fieldwork at Millbrook Magnet Elementary School with 3rd. This was my first time working with 3rd grade and it was such a change from working with kindergarten the previous semester! The students were much more independent and could collaborate better with their peers, so teaching this age took some adjusting to. However, I loved the students and enjoyed working with their age group! I also loved working with my mentor teacher, Mrs. Garrett, who also made sure to include me in her classroom activities, allow the students to get to know me, and give me very detailed positive and constructive feedback each time I taught. Her instructional strategies and classroom design/management gave me many ideas for what I would like to include in my future classroom: flexible seating, global/ multicultural lessons, outdoor learning, and an effort for equity (ex. calling on each student at least once during a lesson). I am grateful for the time I spent in this classroom and the opportunity I had to grow in my teaching skills.
